InventoRR MD and the AbClo are the results of years of formative experiences by our talented team, who realized that post-surgical open abdomen management desperately needed a paradigm shift from reactive approaches to techniques that support early closure and preventative care.
Over the next few articles, we will highlight key players on the AbClo team, their history and experiences, how they came to join the InventoRR MD team, and their involvement in the past, present, and future of AbClo!
Meet Taranvir Dayal: Pioneering Education and Clinical Training for AbClo
In our first feature, we had the pleasure of interviewing Taranvir Dayal, the Vice President of Clinical Education at InventoRR MD.
Dayal began her career as a registered nurse in palliative and complex continuing care at Baycrest Hospital.
With a Master’s degree and extensive experience as an advanced practice nurse, Taranvir has always found herself at the forefront of complex wound management, namely in the use of vacuum therapy for surgical wounds.
“My professional focus has primarily been on wound management, with significant research contributions in pressure injury management, wound assessment, and care for patients with ostomies and fistulas,” she said. “My dedication to tailoring care plans to local needs without compromising patient care has been a driving force throughout my career.”
Embracing the AbClo Revolution
Dayal’s journey with AbClo began when she saw the device as a revolutionary shift from reactive to preventative care in open abdomen management.
“There had to be a better way to manage these wounds and prevent complications before they became severe,” she explained when recalling her formative years working in healthcare.
Motivated to keep patients out of acute care and reduce the burden on healthcare systems, Dayal was quick to join the AbClo team after she realized the opportunity to be part of a revolutionary change in more non-invasive methods.
Building the AbClo Team and Best Practices
As a clinical specialist, Taranvir’s role involves developing best practices and managing change in hospital settings. This includes creating tools such as education portals and training programs to ensure that healthcare professionals can effectively use AbClo and understand how to problem solve in a clinical setting.
Her efforts also extend to stakeholder engagement, where she has been building a robust champion program comprised of dedicated practitioners at each clinical site.
“This program would empower super users with enhanced knowledge to share best practices and learnings, contributing to the continuous improvement of the AbClo system,” she explained
Dayal’s vision is to have more champions join this initiative, creating a network of experts dedicated to advancing wound care.
The Future of AbClo
“I envision a future where AbClo becomes the standard of care in open abdomen management, recognized and adopted globally,” she stated “Alongside negative pressure wound therapy, AbClo will become a standard of care,”
With inclusion in guidelines and increased visibility, Dayal believes that the preventative approach pioneered by AbClo will transform healthcare.
Professional Achievements and Contributions
Dayal has an impressive background that includes eight years at Baycrest and significant contributions at Safe Haven, where she helped build the first transitional program for children in Ontario. She played a crucial role in developing an admission process for medically complex patients to Safehaven in collaboration with Holland Bloorview and Sick Kids hospitals.
At InventoRR MD, Taranvir has been instrumental in creating resources that are transferable to all acute care settings, and help the uptake, implementation and sustainability of AbClo related best practices. Existing options in the market are more reactive and invasive, like the Whitman Patch when compared to AbClo showed that AbClo provided comparable outcomes in a less invasive manner.
